The UO (“you-vo”) campus is worth visiting for its Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, which only displays five percent of its fourteen thousand or so artworks at any one time. Much of the gallery space is taken up by high-quality travelling exhibits, and even the permanent galleries rotate, but the Asian collections are especially good: Japanese, Chinese and Korean contemporary art, as well as traditional scrolls, textiles and ceramics. There’s also an intriguing collection of Russian Orthodox icons and always a strong showing of Pacific Northwest art and photography. Don’t miss the tranquil garden courtyard.
